A start count is the number shown on a post, profile or channel at the moment your order starts. It decides your refill because refill only restores drops down to start count plus the ordered amount. Anything that falls below the start count is outside the order and is not covered.
What does start count mean in an SMM order?
The start count is the counter reading taken when delivery begins. It is the baseline for everything that follows: progress, completion and refill. It is recorded at start, not at the moment you place the order.
For example, a client's video has 1,200 views when your order of 5,000 views starts. The start count is 1,200, and the target after delivery is 6,200.
If your order sits as Pending or Processing for a while, the counter can change before delivery starts. Organic views keep coming in. That is why the start count can differ from the number you saw when you submitted the order.
How does the start count decide what refill covers?
Refill restores drops down to a fixed line: start count plus the ordered amount. That restoration only applies within the refill period shown on the service. After that period ends, the refill button is no longer available for that order.
For example, an account has 3,000 followers at start and you order 1,000. The refill line is 4,000. If the count falls to 3,700 within the refill period, refill can restore up to 300.
Now take the same account falling to 2,800. Refill can bring it back toward 4,000 only for the part that belongs to your order. The 200 followers lost below the original 3,000 were never part of the order, so refill does not replace them.
Why are drops below the start count not covered?
Those followers, likes or views existed before your order. They might come from the client's own audience, an earlier campaign or another order. Refill covers what was delivered, not the account's whole history.
For example, a client unfollows-cleans their account, or the platform removes old inactive accounts. The number can drop below the starting point. That loss is real, but it has nothing to do with the order you placed.
Platforms set their own rules on what counts and how engagement is reviewed. Read the official policy before promising a client a result. Instagram explains its approach to inauthentic activity on the Instagram Help Center.
How can you explain the start count to a client?
Keep it simple and put it in writing before the order. Tell the client the refill protects what you added, measured from the number on the day delivery started. Clients rarely argue with a rule they saw in advance.
A short message works well, for example: "Your post had 850 likes when delivery started. We added 2,000. If it drops during the refill period, we can restore it up to 2,850."
- Note the start count from the order details once delivery starts.
- Share the refill period shown on the service.
- Explain that losses below the starting number are outside the order.
- Ask the client not to delete and repost the content, since a new post means a new counter.
Does the order status affect the start count?
Yes, because the count is taken when delivery starts. Pending means the order is received but not started. Processing usually means it is waiting to start, so delivery is not underway yet.
In progress means delivery has started and the start count is set. A Partial order also has a start count, and the undelivered remainder goes back to your balance. For example, if 700 of 1,000 are delivered, the refill line is start count plus 700.
If you placed an order on the wrong link, the link cannot be changed. You need a new order, which will get its own start count. If you work by API, the status call returns the start count, as covered in our guide to using an SMM panel API.
What this means for resellers and agencies
The start count is the line that settles most refill questions before they become complaints. Record it, share it with your client and quote the refill period from the service. If you are building your offer, our post on how to start an SMM reseller business covers how to set these expectations early.

Frequently asked questions
Does drip-feed change the start count?
Each drip-feed run is its own order, so each run records its own start count when it begins. Check the start count on each run before you request a refill.
Can I request a refill on a service without refill?
No. The refill button only appears on eligible completed orders for services that include refill, as shown in the services list.
Where do I find the start count of my order?
It appears in the order details in your dashboard once delivery has started. API users can read it from the status response.
