What changed on YouTube in October 2026?

Shorts now favour original content (1 October 2026)

YouTube changed Shorts recommendations to favour original content. Channels that mostly re-upload or aggregate other creators' videos "will likely see less distribution" in the Shorts feed. Minor technical or template edits do not count as original. Source: TeamYouTube, Prioritizing original content on Shorts.

For orders, this matters most on compilation channels. Views you deliver to a Short do not change how YouTube judges originality. For example, a client running a clip channel may see weaker organic reach after an order than they did in September.

What to tell your client: an order adds the ordered amount; it does not override YouTube's recommendation rules. Original Shorts are now the content YouTube says it wants to distribute.

Temporary feature pause (21 October 2026)

When YouTube detects unusual or unauthorized activity on a channel, it pauses uploads, live streams, playlist edits, custom thumbnails and switching videos to public. Review typically takes 24 hours. Viewers can still watch, and monetization is not affected. Source: YouTube Help community (TeamYouTube), 21 October 2026.

This can confuse clients during an active order. For example, a client may report they cannot upload while their view order is still In progress. The pause is about channel activity and access, and YouTube reviews it on its own timeline.

What to tell your client: check account security first, wait for YouTube's review, and do not assume the pause is permanent.

30-day locked period for some Spam policy cases (29 October 2026, test)

In a test, some channels facing immediate termination under the Spam policy get a 30-day "locked period" instead. While locked, they cannot upload or comment. They can fix or delete violating videos, delete all videos, or appeal; doing nothing leads to termination. Source: YouTube Help community, YouTube Test Features and Experiments, 29 October 2026.

For example, if a client says their channel is locked, ask whether they saw a 30-day notice. That tells you it is this test and that there is a deadline.

What to tell your client: act within the 30 days by fixing, deleting or appealing. Point them to YouTube's own notice for the exact steps.

$20 payout threshold (26 October 2026, test)

YouTube is testing a lower minimum payout threshold, from $100 to $20, starting with October 2026 payments. It applies to a randomly selected group of creators in the US, India and Indonesia. It is a test, not a new rule. Source: YouTube Help community, YouTube Test Features and Experiments.

Platforms set their own rules on what counts toward monetization and how engagement is reviewed. Read the official policy before promising a client any monetization result. For example, a client in India who hears about the $20 threshold may not be in the test group at all.

The YouTube Partner Program changes taking effect from 1 February 2027 were announced on 10 August 2026 and are not an October change.

Feeds, search and AI labels

On 22 October 2026, custom feeds built from typed prompts started rolling out for signed-in US users, in English, age 13+, with search history on. Users can save 3 feeds, or 8 with Premium. The Home top bar is being redesigned with Live, Music and Movies & TV feeds, and Subscriptions is renamed "Subs" and moved to the top bar.

On 15 October 2026, YouTube began testing "Ask YouTube" AI answer previews at the top of search for select signed-in US desktop users searching in English. On 14 October 2026, YouTube Music started labelling songs made "primarily using generative AI" on the player page; YouTube says labels will expand to the main app, with no date given. Sources: YouTube Help community and YouTube Official Blog.

For example, a music client who uses AI vocals may see a label appear on YouTube Music. Tell clients these are display and discovery changes; your order details stay the same.

What changed on TikTok in October 2026?

US fake-account enforcement figures (20 October 2026)

TikTok's US entity, TikTok USDS Joint Venture, published Q2 2026 figures covering 1 April to 30 June 2026. It removed 14.6 million fake accounts, blocked 64.8 million spam accounts at creation, removed 781.4 million fake followers and prevented 403.2 million fake follow requests. It also disrupted 30 engagement-manipulation networks. These figures are US only. Source: TikTok USDS platform security report Q2 2026.

Platforms remove fake and inactive accounts at scale, so follower counts can drop after clean-ups. Platforms set their own rules on what counts as a follower and how engagement is reviewed, so read the official policy before promising a client a result. Refill covers drops down to the start count plus ordered amount, within the refill period shown on the service.

StepFollower countCovered by refill?
Start count when order starts5,000Baseline
Order of 1,000 completed6,000Target
Clean-up drops count to 5,7005,700Yes, 300 within the refill period
Further drop to 4,8004,800No: the count is below the start count. Bring it back to 5,000 first, then request the refill

The numbers above are for example only. What to tell your client: drops can happen after platform clean-ups, and refill restores only the ordered amount, only during the stated period. Check the refill column on the services list with refill options before you quote.

Advertiser and creator tools (5 and 7 October 2026)

On 5 October 2026, TikTok announced AI-powered advertiser updates. It says it is "building" Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant, and that Agentic Leads "will be available". It also named Search Ads powered by Smart+, Smart+ Creative Selection, a GMV Max expansion and the TikTok Ad Network for US advertisers. Most items have no launch date or region. Source: TikTok Newsroom, 5 October 2026.

On 7 October 2026 at TikTok World Canada, TikTok announced Creator AI Search in TikTok One, which reads a campaign brief and returns a shortlist of matching creators. It also announced TopReach ads, Branded Buzz and Search Hubs, with no dates or regions. For example, an agency client may ask if they can use Creator AI Search today; the honest answer is that no rollout date was published.

Brand Safety Center and AI labels (28 October 2026)

TikTok launched a Brand Safety Center, a Brand Protection Playbook and an AI Safety Essentials guide. It said it has labelled "over 3 billion videos" as AI-generated, using Content Credentials, creator labels and invisible watermarking. Source: TikTok Newsroom, Brand Safety Center.

For example, a client posting AI-made product videos should expect labels to appear. Tell them labelling is TikTok's decision and works separately from any order. Voice comments, comment polls and photo comments arrived earlier, on 3 September 2026.

What changed on Instagram in October 2026?

On 7 October 2026, the Edits app added a carousel editor on iOS, with Android "coming soon" (Source: Edits blog). On 15 October 2026, Edits added clickable links on audio, a view of topics your followers watch most, "Kits" for saved styles and 50 new video effects (Source: @creators on Instagram).

On 26 October 2026, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said Instagram is "investing in longer videos, which we're going to call Features" and that "it's early, and we're testing". No other details are officially confirmed. For example, if a client asks about length limits for Features, say Instagram has not published them.

For orders, none of this changes how a Reel or post link works. Make sure the link is correct before ordering, because the link on an existing order cannot be changed.

What changed on Facebook in October 2026?

On 13 October 2026, "Your algorithm" began rolling out. Users add topics they want in Feed and Reels and describe what they want more or less of. Meta says ranking reads this input alongside likes, comments and watch behaviour; countries were not stated. Source: Meta Newsroom, Introducing Your algorithm.

For example, a page client may notice reach shifting between audiences. Tell them viewer choices now feed into ranking, alongside engagement.

What this means for resellers and agencies

Most October changes affect distribution, labels and account controls, not how orders run. The TikTok report and the YouTube pause are the two to explain carefully, because clients connect them to their numbers. Set expectations on start count and refill period up front, and check the FAQ on order statuses and refill or the API v2 documentation if you automate status checks.

You can see the services for each platform, with refill options, on the helnsocial services list.

Frequently asked questions

Does a YouTube temporary feature pause cancel an active order?

No, the pause limits uploads and channel edits, and viewers can still watch. Check the order status in your dashboard for its real progress.

Can I change the link on an order if a client switches to a new video?

No, the link on an existing order cannot be changed. A different video needs a new order.

Are the TikTok enforcement figures global?

No, they cover US operations under TikTok USDS Joint Venture for 1 April to 30 June 2026.
